Two young African entrepreneurs were attracted to the potential opportunities in Xiong’an New Area, located in Hebei Province in northern China, and took the initiative to set up their companies there in February, citing the region’s reputation for fairness and efficiency.
In April 2017, China initiated the creation of the Xiong’an New Area with the goal of relieving Beijing of non-essential functions as the nation’s capital and promoting coordinated development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Recently, Omane Vincent Kwakye, a 27-year-old Ghanaian graduate of Dalian Medical University in Liaoning Province, relocated to Xiong’an with hopes of finding success. Vincent believes that Xiong’an offers the most promising opportunities in China, especially compared to densely populated cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. He sees Xiong’an as a fresh start where he can establish his international trade company focusing on medical equipment trade between China and Africa.
Similarly, Godsword George Chinemerem, a 32-year-old Nigerian entrepreneur, is enthusiastic about participating in Xiong’an’s development. Having previously run equipment trading companies in Shenzhen and Haikou, George decided to start a logistics company in Xiong’an due to his confidence in China’s futuristic city. He found the process of registering a company in Xiong’an straightforward and efficient for foreigners.
Samuel Nwokocha, a friend of George and Vincent, shares their optimism about the prospects of Xiong’an. Currently pursuing an MBA degree at Shenyang University, Samuel plans to expand his business from Nigeria to China by establishing a company in Xiong’an after completing his studies in 2025. He envisions staying long-term in Xiong’an to witness the growth of his business and contribute to the local economy.
