The Pamoja Founders Project, a regional initiative led by IREX, the PepsiCo Foundation, and Pepsi, has granted $15,000 to six African enterprises following a competitive pitch competition in Nairobi, Kenya. These enterprises, spearheaded by young innovators, tackle food security challenges in their countries.
The winners include Dr. Akpem Shadrach of Vet Konect in Nigeria, Abdul de Almeida of Crimas, Orza, and FAE in Mozambique, Juliet Namwanje of Ziimba in Uganda, Brendah Nantongo of Veathari Ventures Limited in Uganda, Elizabeth Okullow of Agriboom in Kenya, and Nathnael Tadesse of Senaryo Trading Plc in Ethiopia.
The Pamoja Founders Project equips young entrepreneurs with skills and resources to scale their ventures through training, mentorship, and networking. This initiative spans Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Nigeria.
Distinguished guests attended the closing ceremony, including IREX and PepsiCo representatives, Governor Sakaja Johnson of Nairobi City County, U.S. Embassy officials, and notable business and social impact figures. Their presence emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing food security in Africa.
George Kogolla, IREX’s Country Director for Kenya and East Africa, celebrated the entrepreneurial spirit showcased by the inaugural cohort of the Pamoja Founders Project. Roshan Paul, IREX’s Director of Leadership, commended the cohort’s dedication to advancing food security across Africa.
Wael Ismail, PepsiCo’s Vice President of Corporate Affairs in Africa, Middle East, and South Asia, reiterated PepsiCo’s commitment to collaborating with innovators to foster a sustainable food system in Africa.
IREX will continue supporting the cohort for three months post-program completion. Additionally, the Pamoja Founders will become part of a pan-African network of IREX alumni, ensuring ongoing engagement and development opportunities.
