In a significant move to enhance Ghana’s economic landscape, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo today introduced the SME Growth and Opportunity (GO) Programme at the SME Growth and Opportunity Summit, which took place at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra.
This comprehensive initiative is supported by a considerable funding package of GHS 8.2 billion and aims to assist small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which are essential to the nation’s economic well-being.
President Akufo-Addo stressed the vital role SMEs play in Ghana’s economy, noting that they make up 92% of businesses and contribute 70% to the GDP. Despite their significant impact, SMEs encounter numerous challenges, especially in securing financing, which hampers their growth and innovation potential.
“The entrepreneurial spirit of Ghanaians has consistently driven our economic transformation. Our SMEs form the backbone of our economy, and it is crucial that we help them overcome the obstacles they face,” President Akufo-Addo remarked.
