Climate Resilience Challenge Grants
The ACU Commonwealth Climate Resilience Challenge Grants are designed to empower ACU member universities to drive climate resilience initiatives. Through these grants, academic and professional staff can lead projects that support the Commonwealth Climate Resilience Network’s (CCRN) strategic priorities:
- Enhancing the resilience of universities themselves
- Boosting universities’ role in community, business, and governmental resilience

- Three grants available, each up to GBP 3,500
Eligibility and Application Process
- Open to staff members at ACU member universities
- Applications should be submitted online
- Already registered? Log in to MyACU and access the application form.
- New applicant? Register for a MyACU account and follow the registration instructions to access the application form.
Applicants are encouraged to collaborate with other ACU member institutions to promote Commonwealth partnerships. Additionally, proposals involving partnerships with non-ACU institutions are also considered. Applications that include matching or supplementary funds from the applicant’s institution are given special consideration.
Ideas for Grant Usage The grants can support a range of initiatives across these focus areas:
- Climate change adaptation in education: Initiatives may include virtual exchange programs, collaborative teaching, and shared development of learning resources.
- Research capacity enhancement: Projects can involve virtual fellowships, research management, or exploring and documenting indigenous knowledge of resilience.
- Strengthening institutional resilience: Efforts here might involve creating tools, training, or developing continuity planning frameworks for universities.
These grants have already enabled a diverse array of climate action projects in Commonwealth universities—ranging from coral reef temperature monitoring in Fiji to integrating indigenous knowledge in New Zealand’s academic frameworks.
