Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has launched a N260 million empowerment program to support 5,200 women entrepreneurs across the state. Each beneficiary, spanning the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs), will receive N50,000 monthly. The initiative aims to elevate small-scale businesses, acknowledging the vital role women play in their families.
Managed by the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC), the scheme targets 100 women from each of the 36 rural LGAs and 200 women from the 8 metropolitan LGAs. Governor Yusuf sees this program as a gesture of gratitude for the immense support women provided during the 2023 elections. It’s also in line with his commitment to bolster women’s self-sufficiency and overall welfare.
The grant intends to finance various small-scale ventures, including awara, gireba, koko da kosai, local juices, and kuli-kuli. Additionally, the State Government has refurbished and enhanced several hospitals, especially maternity and pediatric units, to address the challenges faced by women and children.
Grateful beneficiaries like Rabbi Musa from Doguwa LGA and Habiba Abubakar from Tudun Wada LGA have commended the governor for this unprecedented initiative. They believe the assistance will significantly uplift grassroots-level businesses, expressing profound gratitude for the governor’s empowering efforts.
