The BATN Foundation, in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Government, has distributed 2,000 Noiler chickens to 100 smallholder farmers to promote food security and uplift rural communities.
Unveiled in 2024 at the Akwa Ibom Agricultural Development Project premises, this initiative focuses on supporting vulnerable groups such as women (especially widows), youth, and individuals with disabilities. Each beneficiary received 20 five-week-old Noiler chickens, a 25kg bag of poultry feed, a 150g multivitamin sachet, and N5,000 for transportation.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development emphasized the program’s alignment with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE agenda, which prioritizes agricultural development in the state.
The BATN Foundation highlighted the initiative’s role in tackling food security challenges and fostering economic empowerment among smallholder farmers. Beneficiaries were carefully selected through collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, the Poultry Farmers Association of Nigeria, and the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association to ensure support reached the most vulnerable farmers.
The Director of Veterinary Services in Akwa Ibom State described the initiative as a game-changer for rural agriculture and a significant boost for local poultry breeds. Similarly, the Director of Livestock and Husbandry commended the project’s alignment with the state’s agricultural revolution agenda.
Implemented by Eco-Lead Imperial Engineering and Global Services Ltd, the program also seeks to enhance nutrition and advance gender equality by equipping women and youth with the skills necessary for sustainable poultry farming.
