The Standard Chartered Women in Technology Incubator Kenya stands as Africa’s premier incubator program for women in technology, aligning with the growing demand for diversity in the tech sector and the need to create more opportunities for women to excel in entrepreneurship and leadership.
This program, a collaboration between Standard Chartered and Strathmore University’s @iBizAfrica incubator, offers a blend of top-notch startup support and both local and international expertise. It aims to provide Africa’s most competitive and appealing startup incubation experience, focusing on immersive learning, mentorship, and the development and growth of Africa’s next groundbreaking startups tackling the continent’s most pressing challenges and opportunities, with the backing of seed capital.
Eligibility
The program seeks to attract the most innovative entrepreneurial minds and women-led tech startups as pivotal drivers of innovation in business. The main founder must:
- Be a woman.
- Be above 18 years of age.
- Be a Kenyan citizen or have permanent residency.
Other Requirements
- The startups must be registered in Kenya and be developing technological solutions aimed at addressing socio-economic challenges in Kenya.
- Selected startup ventures may operate across various sectors.
- Startups must integrate emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, Big Data, Machine Learning, Robotics, Augmented & Virtual Reality, 3D & 4D Printing, Cloud Computing, Blockchain, Drone Technology, Biometrics, etc., into their solutions within their respective sectors.
- Applicants must be women-led startup ventures, with teams comprising at least 50% women.
- The principal applicant must be the founder with the majority stake.
- Startups should have been in operation for 3 months to less than 2 years and should be seeking support for proof of concept, customer, product, and business model development.
- Preference will be given to startups with early traction (users), although pre-revenue startups are also eligible.
- Startups should not have received investments exceeding KES. 500,000 or participated in similar programs in the past year.
- Companies addressing any of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are encouraged to apply
