Dangote Cement Plc has successfully trained and graduated 46 solar energy installers and entrepreneurs, further cementing its contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth. The graduation ceremony, held at the Dangote Academy, was graced by prominent individuals, including Azad Nawabuddin, Plant Director of Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana. Speaking through John Gwong, Head of Production, Azad highlighted the critical role of youth empowerment in fostering sustainable development and generating employment opportunities.
John Gwong reiterated that the training aligns with Dangote’s dedication to supporting government initiatives aimed at electrifying communities nationwide. He described the program as a transformative opportunity, a “meal ticket,” and a forward-thinking initiative focused on creating a sustainable future.
This initiative is a vital part of Dangote Cement’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, equipping trainees with the skills to make significant contributions to Nigeria’s renewable energy sector. Wakeel Olayiwola, Head of Social Performance at Dangote Cement, represented by Olusegun Olojede, underscored the graduates’ capacity to support government efforts to enhance the country’s power supply.
The program benefitted 46 participants, including 27 men and 19 women, selected from Obajana, Oyo, Iwaa, and Apata in Kogi State. Delivered in partnership with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), the training equipped participants with the knowledge and skills needed to leverage solar energy for sustainable power generation.
Abdulrahman Wudilawa, Training Manager at ITF Kogi State, encouraged the graduates to seize the lucrative opportunities in Nigeria’s solar energy sector, leveraging the country’s abundant sunlight. He also stressed the environmental advantages of solar energy, highlighting its contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and combating climate change.
