The Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO) has introduced 250 indigenous technologies aimed at empowering small businesses across Nigeria. This announcement was made by the Institute’s Director-General/CEO, Dr. Jummai Adamu, during a two-day Industrial Linkage Technology Extension program, which took place in Akure, Ondo State, specifically for the Southwest geopolitical zone.
The program’s main goal was to familiarize participants with FIIRO’s commercial-ready technologies designed to promote industrialization in both rural and urban areas. Dr. Adamu, in her remarks at the event, reiterated FIIRO’s commitment to supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing innovative solutions that can be easily adopted by businesses nationwide. She emphasized the Institute’s dedication to fostering industrial growth in all six geopolitical zones by making these technologies accessible to MSMEs.
The event drew 50 participants, including both aspiring and established entrepreneurs, and was attended by key organizations such as the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME), the National Association of Small Scale Industrialists (NASSI), and the Association of Small Business Owners of Nigeria (ASBON).
One of the workshop’s key highlights was the practical demonstration of Fish Smoking Technology, a profitable venture that requires minimal startup capital, utilizes readily available resources, and meets strong market demand. The demonstration was designed to provide participants with the technical expertise needed to start small-scale fish-smoking enterprises.
At the closing ceremony, Dr. Adamu congratulated the participants for gaining new skills and encouraged them to stay connected with FIIRO for continued support through the Institute’s Akure office. She urged them to apply their newly acquired knowledge to build successful businesses that contribute to Nigeria’s industrial development.
This initiative forms part of FIIRO’s larger strategy to drive innovation-based industrialization and support MSMEs in thriving within the competitive marketplace.
