Flutterwave, a leading African payments technology company, has collaborated with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to streamline digital tax collection, reinforcing its pivotal role in modernizing Nigeria’s tax administration.
Through this integration, FIRS will utilize Flutterwave’s secure payment platform to facilitate the collection of taxes, levies, and other statutory payments from both businesses and individuals nationwide. This partnership introduces multiple digital payment channels, real-time transaction monitoring, and offline tax payment options, enhancing accessibility and transparency for individuals, SMEs, and large corporations.
Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, Flutterwave’s CEO, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the company’s dedication to driving efficiency and fostering economic growth. “By simplifying and enhancing transparency in tax payments, we are contributing to the digital transformation of government revenue collection and supporting national development,” he stated.
Additionally, this collaboration supports FIRS’ ongoing initiatives to modernize public revenue collection. Flutterwave’s Senior Vice President of Business Development, Olufunmilayo Olaniyi, highlighted the critical role of fintech in advancing public sector innovation. She noted that strategic partnerships like this strengthen trust and drive meaningful progress in Nigeria’s evolving digital economy.
Beyond tax collection, Flutterwave continues to be a major player in Nigeria’s financial ecosystem. In 2024, the company partnered with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to establish a cybercrime research center, further reinforcing its commitment to financial security and technological innovation.
As one of the few fintech companies enabling government tax payments, Flutterwave remains at the forefront of advancing digital financial solutions that promote economic development in Nigeria and across the continent.
