Muhammad Kamaludeen University in Ilorin, Kwara State, has announced a plan to provide $1,000 startup funds for students interested in entrepreneurship, revealed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rasheed Jimoh, during the matriculation of the university’s first 146 students.
This initiative aims to equip students with critical thinking skills for global competition. Innovative courses like MKU-GS 112 – Initiative Thinking and Idea Creation have been introduced to instill entrepreneurship skills from the first semester.
The university will assist in registering startup companies for viable ideas generated by student teams, aiming to achieve a startup fund of over $1,000 before registration. The university has launched with 15 approved academic programs and plans to admit more students for new programs by October. Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu donated a building worth N50m to the university.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, was appointed Chancellor, and Prof. Shuaib AbdulRaheem as Pro-Chancellor. The Chancellor encouraged prospective students to consider the unique opportunities offered by MKU. Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, was represented by his Senior Adviser/Counsellor, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, at the event.
