The Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to empower women entrepreneurs with essential digital and financial strategies to foster business growth as part of the International Women’s Day 2025 celebrations.
Titled “Empowering Women, Elevating Businesses: Digital & Financial Strategies for Growth,” the event is scheduled for March 12, 2025, at the Women Development Centre in Agege. It aims to bring together a diverse group of industry professionals, including business strategists, financial experts, e-commerce specialists, and cooperative development leaders, to equip women with practical insights for navigating today’s evolving business environment.
Speaking on the initiative, Hauwa Adeeyo, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening female-led MSMEs and advancing financial inclusion. She emphasized that Lagos, being Africa’s economic powerhouse, relies significantly on women entrepreneurs to sustain and drive economic progress.
“This initiative is designed to provide women business owners with the necessary digital resources, financial education, cooperative business opportunities, and strategic frameworks for long-term growth. It aligns with the IWD 2025 theme, ‘Inspire Inclusion.’ Through this programme, we are not just celebrating women in business; we are also ensuring they gain the financial literacy, digital capabilities, and cooperative support essential for scaling their ventures. An empowered woman in business positively impacts families, communities, and the broader economy,” Adeeyo stated.
Attendees will participate in interactive workshops and panel discussions covering key topics such as utilizing e-commerce platforms for business expansion and financial literacy strategies, including securing funding and managing business finances effectively. Additionally, the initiative will provide access to mentorship, funding prospects, and cooperative business benefits, such as bulk purchasing and opportunities for broader market reach.
Adeeyo also highlighted the Lagos State Women Entrepreneurship Fund as a vital financial support system for female-led businesses. She further mentioned initiatives such as the Eko MSME Fashion Hub, which grants women in the creative sector access to advanced fashion technology, and the Market Modernisation Programme, which enhances infrastructure and introduces digital solutions for market traders.
The event is expected to attract over 200 women entrepreneurs from various industries, along with key stakeholders from Lagos State’s commerce, trade, and cooperative sectors. Representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, financial institutions, fintech companies, and private sector investors will also be in attendance to offer mentorship and funding opportunities.
