The Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain and expanding opportunities for young female entrepreneurs through the Agro-Hack Challenge initiative. This effort is made possible in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation and GEN Nigeria.
The recently concluded 5th edition of the Agro-Hack Challenge, hosted at the EDC office, celebrated twelve female-led agro businesses for their impactful contributions to the sector. All Green Limited secured the top position, earning a grand prize of N1 million, while Glorious Farm Gate and Vickey Goshen Eco Farm placed second and third, receiving N750,000 and N500,000, respectively. Additionally, nine other finalists each received N100,000 in recognition of their efforts.
This year’s competition attracted participants from all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, showcasing businesses such as Market AI, Juvison Enterprise, Glorious Farm Gate, Elafagon Nigeria Limited, Yar Galadimas Business Empire, Sehaj Energy Resource, Mrs. Muna Rice Shield, Triple A, Farm Box, Awari Olounge Omode, and All Green Ivy Limited.
During the pitch session, Dr. Nnena Ugwu, Head of Alumni Relations and Support Services and a member of the EDC Management Board, emphasized the program’s mission to drive innovation while expanding opportunities for female agro-entrepreneurs. She pointed out that while past editions of the challenge included both male- and female-led businesses, this year’s competition exclusively focused on women to address their underrepresentation in the agricultural sector.
To bolster their success, participants engaged in accelerator programs, including boot camps and mentorship sessions, equipping them with essential business strategies to overcome challenges in the agricultural value chain.
Through the Agro-Hack Challenge, EDC and GEN Nigeria, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, continue to empower female entrepreneurs and small businesses. The initiative provides them with the necessary resources to drive transformation, strengthen the agricultural sector, and contribute to broader economic growth.
