“Microsoft Commits to Empowering 10 Million SMEs by 2025”
During a press briefing in Lagos, Microsoft Africa’s President, Lillian Barnard, announced the tech giant’s ambitious goal to support ten million small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by 2025.
Barnard emphasized Microsoft’s dedication to providing SMEs with crucial tools, infrastructure, and assistance in scaling up, aiming to accelerate their growth and facilitate strategic partnerships.
She stated, “Microsoft is deeply invested in driving economic advancement in Africa through technology’s transformative potential. A significant aspect of this effort involves enabling SMEs to access essential digital financial tools and services vital for their success.”
Barnard highlighted the pivotal role of fintech companies in supporting SMEs and the informal sector, which contribute significantly to employment and GDP growth.
In line with this commitment, Microsoft entered a strategic partnership with Flutterwave for a duration of five years, aiming to revolutionize payment systems across Africa.
Ola Williams, Microsoft Nigeria’s Country Manager, underscored the importance of digital financial inclusion for sustainable growth, asserting that enabling small businesses to engage more actively in local and global markets starts with digital financial accessibility.
