The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has unveiled a N30 billion initiative aimed at fostering youth entrepreneurship in the Niger Delta region. The fund, announced on Saturday, will be administered by the Niger Delta Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines, and Agriculture (NDCCITMA).
Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC, reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to empowering youths through economic programs, including training and support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He stressed the significance of identifying and backing legitimate businesses, emphasizing that while government jobs are scarce, fostering an environment conducive to entrepreneurship is vital for driving economic growth.
Additionally, Dr. Ogbuku introduced the NDDC Youth Internship Scheme, which is designed to equip young individuals with practical skills by linking them with organizations for hands-on training. The application process is being simplified to ensure the program’s readiness for launch in January 2025, with selected candidates set to be notified shortly.
This initiative is part of NDDC’s comprehensive plan to promote economic development and maintain peace in the Niger Delta by engaging young people in meaningful activities. Since its inception in 2000, the NDDC has prioritized development and empowerment, implementing various programs to build human capacity and infrastructure throughout the region. This latest effort seeks to further this legacy by transforming the Niger Delta into a hub of economic prosperity.
