The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC) is accepting applications for the 3rd African Union Commission Chairperson’s Youth Envoy (AUCYE) for a two-year term, with the possibility of a one-term renewal.
The African Union (AU) Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, underscores that the continent's future relies heavily on the skills, innovation, knowledge, talent, and commitment of its younger generation. Recognizing this potential, the AU and its Member States have placed youth leadership, participation, and development at the forefront of their agendas. Most Member States have already implemented national youth policies and frameworks designed to tackle challenges while unlocking transformative opportunities for young people.
Main Functions & Responsibilities
- Advocacy: Champion AU Youth Policies (e.g., African Youth Charter, 1 Million Next Level Initiative) and elevate youth issues globally.
- Engagement: Facilitate meaningful participation of young people, including marginalized groups, in AU policy dialogues.
- Partnerships: Strengthen national, regional, and global youth networks to support AU commitments.
- Liaison: Act as a strategic bridge between youth and AU leadership, collaborating closely with the Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate (WGYD).
Eligibility Requirements
- Age: Must be between 18 and 35 years old for the duration of the appointment.
- Geographical Rotation: Only candidates from the West, East, and Central regions of Africa are eligible.
- Education & Experience:
- Master’s degree with at least 7 years of relevant work experience (including 3 years at an expert/senior level), OR
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of relevant work experience (including 3 years at an expert/senior level).
- Fields: Development Studies, Public Policy, Political Science, International Relations, Information Technology, or related fields.
- Languages: Mandatory proficiency in at least one AU working language (Arabic, English, French, Kiswahili, Portuguese, Spanish). Fluency in a second AU language is an advantage.
Key Skills Required
- Demonstrated understanding of youth empowerment and mobilization frameworks.
- Proven leadership, multi-stakeholder management, and diplomatic negotiation skills.
- Strong communication, storytelling, strategic planning, and digital advocacy capabilities.
Remuneration (Annual Lump-Sum Salary)
- Internationally Recruited Staff: US$ 96,921.34 (P3 Step 5, inclusive of all allowances).
- Locally Recruited Staff: US$ 78,461.08 (inclusive of all allowances).
