Applications are officially open for the 2026/2027 AfDB Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) Program. This fully funded scholarship supports high-achieving young African professionals seeking postgraduate degrees in energy development, agriculture, health, engineering, and environmental sustainability in Japan.
Benefits:
Selected scholars will receive full financial support, which includes:
- Tuition & Admission Fees: Full coverage of academic fees.
- Monthly Stipend: 150,000 JPY per month for living expenses and accommodation (subject to minor adjustments).
- Travel: Round-trip economy class airfare between your home country and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU).

- Nationality: Hold citizenship in an AfDB member country.
- Age: Be 35 years old or younger.
- Education: Hold at least a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in energy, agriculture, health, environmental sustainability, engineering, or related fields with an outstanding academic record.
- Work Experience: Have at least 1 year of paid employment in their home country or another African nation within the past 3 years following university graduation.
- Enrollment Status: Not currently enrolled in a graduate degree program.
- Conflict of Interest: Not be an Executive Director, alternate, staff member, or immediate relative (parent, sibling, child, aunt/uncle, niece/nephew) of the African Development Bank Group.
- Commitment: Agree to return to their home country after completing their studies to contribute to local economic and social development.
How to Apply?
To apply for the African Development Bank (AfDB) Japan Africa Dream Scholarship (JADS) Program, follow these steps:
- Request to be considered for the scholarship directly within the APU Online Application portal.
- Submit your application according to your intended enrollment period:
- April 2027 Enrollment: Submit by September 15, 2026
- September 2027 Enrollment: Submit by November 5, 2026 or January 8, 2027
- Ensure you prepare and submit your Research Proposal (aligned with the AfDB's "High 5s" priorities) and Curriculum Vitae in accordance with the guidelines in the application handbook.
