The Global Young Academy (GYA) has officially opened applications for its 2027 Membership. GYA is seeking young, independent scholars from across the globe who combine a proven track record of research excellence with a passionate commitment to creating a tangible societal impact.

Core Selection Criteria
To be considered for the 2027 cohort, applicants must demonstrate strength in three primary pillars:
- Research Excellence: The call is highly inclusive and open to scholars in any research-based discipline. This includes the natural, physical, and social sciences, as well as the arts and humanities. Eligible candidates may work in academia, government, industry, or non-governmental sectors.
- Demonstrated Impact: Applicants must show a clear commitment to making a positive difference in society. GYA looks for evidence of interest or past experience in policy debate, science outreach, or interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Academic Qualification: A PhD or an equivalent doctoral degree is a strict requirement for all applicants.
Age and Career Stage Eligibility
The GYA targets scholars in the early to middle years of their independent research careers. Eligibility is determined by the following age and graduation benchmarks:
Applicant Category & Eligibility Rules
Born in or after 1986: Eligible without any restrictions, provided they hold a PhD.
Born before 1986: Must have obtained their PhD in 2019 or later.

Member Expectations and Commitments
As a member-led organization, the GYA relies heavily on the active participation of its cohort. Selected members are expected to:
- Contribute Time: Dedicate a minimum of 6 hours per month to GYA projects, committees, science-for-policy activities, or international outreach.
- Attend the AGM: Travel to and participate in the GYA Annual General Meeting (AGM). The upcoming AGM is scheduled for June 21–25, 2027, in Indonesia.
