Call for Applications: €4,000 Tech Support & Grant Program for Nigerian Fact-Checking Platforms

To combat misinformation and safeguard information integrity ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the Fundación para la Internacionalización de las Administraciones Públicas (FIAP) and FactCheckAfrica have launched the 2026 Technical Support and Grant Program.

Operating under the European Union (EU) Support to ECOWAS in Peace, Security, and Governance (EPSG) Project, this initiative will select one prominent organization in Nigeria to receive comprehensive technical upgrades and financial assistance.

Key Benefits

The selected organization will gain access to a robust support package designed to scale its operations:

  • Financial Grant: Up to €4,094.65 to fund approved technology enhancements.
  • Infrastructure Optimization: Comprehensive technical assessments, platform audits, and UI/UX improvements.
  • Advanced Tool Integration: Deployment of AI-powered and automated fact-checking and monitoring tools.
  • Capacity Building: Tailored technical assistance to improve organizational resilience.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this program, applicant organizations must meet the following requirements:

  • Legal Status: Must be legally registered in Nigeria as an NGO, media house, civil society organization (CSO), or independent digital media outfit.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of active experience in media verification, fact-checking, or disinformation monitoring.
  • Digital Presence: Must manage a functional, publicly accessible digital platform dedicated to tracking misinformation.
  • Technical Resources: Possess dedicated in-house technical personnel or a formal technical service provider.
  • Track Record: Proven experience addressing high-impact misinformation (e.g., election-related fake news, political content, public health misinformation, or hate speech).
  • Geographical Reach: Demonstrate national impact or present a clear strategy to cover at least three of Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
  • Inclusivity: Show a clear commitment to gender inclusion and equitable representation.
