Applications are officially open for the 4th Edition of the Cleantech Innovation Competition 2026, organized by the Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) in partnership with the Embassy of Switzerland in Kenya, SICPA, APA Insurance, and Strathmore University.
This competition offers student innovators a platform to transform early-stage clean technology ideas into commercially viable solutions for pressing environmental and climate challenges.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the competition, applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Student Status: Must be currently enrolled at a recognized University or TVET institution in Kenya.
- Project Stage: Innovations must be in the ideation or early stage.
- Environmental Focus: The proposed business or technology must directly address a clear climate or environmental issue.
Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be judged based on five core pillars:
- Climate Impact: Extent to which the solution contributes to climate mitigation, climate adaptation, or broader environmental benefits.
- Scalability: Potential to grow into a commercially viable and sustainable enterprise.
- Innovation: Originality of the technology, product, or business model.
- Job Creation: Capacity of the startup to generate future employment opportunities.
- Progress to Date: Demonstrable steps taken by the team to validate and advance their idea.
