The Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC) has officially opened applications for its flagship initiative, One Country, One Project 2026. Designed to celebrate grassroots, youth-led impact across the Commonwealth, this year’s theme aligns with International Youth Day 2026: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”
The initiative highlights young changemakers who are actively addressing local challenges to build more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities.
Key Focus Areas
Projects may cover a wide range of social and development challenges, including:
- Climate Action & Environmental Sustainability
- Education, Skills Development & Youth Employment
- Technology, AI & Civic Participation
- Health, Well-being & Gender Inclusion
- Peacebuilding, Arts, Culture, Sports & Volunteerism
Eligibility Requirements
- Eligible Groups: Open to youth-led organisations across Commonwealth member states, including National Youth Councils, youth networks, student organisations, community-based youth groups, and youth social enterprises.
- Project Submission Limit: Each organisation may register and submit one project.
Implementation Timeline & Process
- Application Deadline: August 22, 2026
- Project Implementation Window: Implement your initiative in your local community between August 12 and September 20, 2026. Note: You do not need to wait for selection before starting implementation.
- Report Submission: Submit a Project Completion Report detailing your activities, reach, and tangible results.
- Assessment: Outstanding projects will be evaluated at the national level based on impact, youth leadership, innovation, relevance, inclusion, quality of execution, sustainability, and scalability.
Benefits & Recognition: One exceptional initiative from each participating Commonwealth country that meets the required criteria will be named its official One Country, One Project 2026 Awardee.
