Applications are now open for the 2027 DSTI-CSIR Inter-Programme Bursary Scheme (IBS). Funded by the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI), this initiative supports full-time postgraduate studies across public universities in South Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, candidates must be registered or approved for full-time studies in one of the following qualifications:
- Honours degree / 4th-year Engineering / Postgraduate Diploma
- Master’s degree
- Doctoral degree (PhD)
Eligible Research Focus Areas:
Applicants must be pursuing research aligned with one of the CSIR-DSTI thematic focus areas:
- Biocatalysis
- Biopharming
- Bioprocessing
- Health
- Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
- Indigenous Knowledge Systems
- Microsystems Technology
- Mining
- Modelling and Digital Sciences
- Titanium (Manufacturing Elements)
- Photonics
- Water Research
Financial Benefits:
Annual Bursary Values
- Honours / 4th-Year Engineering / Postgraduate Diploma: R160,000
- Master’s: R170,000
- Doctorate: R180,000
Note: All recipients also receive a once-off laptop allowance of R10,000.
