The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Solid Minerals Development Fund (SMDF) under the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, has officially launched the Early-Stage Mineral Exploration & Research Grant Endowment (EMERGE).
Designed to advance Nigeria's solid minerals sector in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the initiative aims to bridge the funding gap between initial mineral discovery and commercial, investment-ready mining operations.
Tailored Funding Streams
The program offers three distinct funding streams, tailored to match different stages of work and project types:
1. Exploration Stream
- Target Audience: Non-producing, early-stage mining and exploration companies.
- Eligible Activities: Funding supports grassroots and early-stage exploration, including geological mapping, geochemical and geophysical surveys, core drilling, and assaying required to establish a maiden resource.
2. Critical Minerals Stream
- Target Audience: Exploration companies focusing on strategic minerals as well as processing technology innovators.
- Eligible Activities: Targeted exploration focused on critical minerals such as lithium, tin, tantalum, nickel, cobalt, and rare earths and the development of innovative processing technologies to add domestic value and strengthen national supply chains.
3. Research & Development Stream
- Target Audience: Nigerian universities, research institutions, and Master’s or PhD researchers.
- Eligible Activities: Applied geoscience research, mineral processing studies, and advanced technologies that build and expand Nigeria's geological knowledge base.
