Fully Funded Advocacy Training in Dakar, Senegal: Call for African Human Rights Defenders

DefendDefenders, Front Line Defenders, and the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) are hosting an intensive, in-person capacity-building program in Dakar, Senegal. This initiative is designed to help African activists effectively integrate the mechanisms of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) into their local and national advocacy strategies.

The program aims to empower participants to run high-impact campaigns at the regional level, driving meaningful human rights reforms in their home countries.

What to Expect

Selected participants must first complete two mandatory online preparatory sessions before traveling. The in-person segment spans two and a half days of interactive workshops, followed by active participation in the three-day NGO Forum (hosted by the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies) and the opening day of the 89th ACHPR Session.

By participating in this training, you will:

  • Master ACHPR Mechanisms: Gain a deeper understanding of how to use state periodic reviews, country visits, special rapporteurs, and formal communications to support your cause.
  • Develop Practical Skills: Sharpen your tactical advocacy skills through interactive, real-world case studies.
  • Expand Your Network: Connect, collaborate, and share strategies with human rights defenders from across the African continent.
  • Engage Key Stakeholders: Pitch your human rights issues directly to regional policymakers, decision-makers, and international delegates.

Note: The training will be conducted in both English and French, with simultaneous interpretation services provided.
