Africa’s energy landscape sits at a critical turning point. While the continent holds vast renewable energy potential, millions still lack reliable access to power, limiting industrial growth and economic expansion.
The Future Energy Leaders Innovation Challenge 2026, organized by the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), is designed to identify and support young innovators developing practical, scalable solutions to Africa’s energy challenges.
The initiative will showcase the most promising ideas at the Future of Energy Conference (FEC 2026) in Accra, Ghana.
What Selected Innovators Will Receive
Participants selected for the challenge will gain access to a structured innovation and funding pathway, including:
- Up to $5,000 equity-free grant funding
- Opportunity to pitch at a global energy conference
- Mentorship from energy and climate experts
- Long-term incubation through ACEP’s Climate Innovation Hub
- Direct exposure to policymakers and investors
- Full intellectual property ownership of their innovations
Finalists will present their solutions to more than 1,000 global stakeholders, including investors, energy leaders, and development partners.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

- Be African citizens or residents
- Be aged 15 to 35 years (or up to 35 for lead applicants)
- Apply as individuals or teams (maximum 5 members)
- Submit early-stage ideas, prototypes, or pilot-ready solutions
- Demonstrate feasibility and potential impact
Applications are open to both local and diaspora-based African innovators.
