Young Nigerian students with strong writing skills and creative thinking now have a fresh opportunity to earn academic scholarships and national recognition through the Heirs Insurance Essay Competition 2026.

The annual initiative, organised by Heirs Insurance Group, is designed to encourage conversations around financial security, insurance awareness, and social responsibility among secondary school students.

What the Competition Offers

The 2026 edition comes with a combined prize pool worth ₦11.5 million across student, school, and teacher categories.

The overall winner will receive a ₦5 million academic scholarship, while the first and second runners-up will receive ₦3 million and ₦1 million respectively.

In addition to student rewards, the winning student’s school will receive a ₦1 million institutional grant aimed at supporting educational development.

Teachers are also eligible for recognition through a dedicated Insurance Awareness Prize category. The selected teacher will receive a ₦1 million cash prize, while their school will receive an additional ₦500,000 grant.

Essay Topic for 2026

Participants are expected to write on the topic:

“The Power of Insurance in Creating Safer and More Secure Societies”

The organisers noted that the competition seeks to promote critical thinking around financial protection, risk management, and long-term economic resilience among young Nigerians.

Eligibility / Requirements

The competition is open to junior secondary school students across Nigeria, specifically students in JSS1 to JSS3.

Submission guidelines include:

  • Essays must not exceed 500 words
  • Entries must be typed and submitted as a Word document
  • Handwritten submissions will not be accepted
  • Students must include their full name, school name, and class
  • A passport photograph and valid identification are required during submission

The organisers also stated that AI-generated or AI-assisted essays are prohibited, and all entries must be fully original.

For the teachers’ category, applicants are expected to organise an insurance awareness activity within their school or community and submit evidence of the initiative.
