The Lagos State Government has officially launched its 2026 upskilling initiative to train 1,200 tradesmen and artisans across the state. Organised by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, the eight-week intensive programme kicked off at the STO Resource Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, with simultaneous practical training scheduled across Government Technical Colleges in Agidingbi, Ikotun, and Ikorodu. Designed to align with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ Agenda, the initiative focuses on equipping local artisans with modern technical skills, technological competencies, and business management tools necessary to increase productivity and compete in today’s evolving economy. Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Ajigbotafe, highlighted that the state plans to link successful participants directly with project opportunities across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Furthermore, every artisan who successfully completes the training will be provided with essential working tools to bolster their service delivery and scale their operations. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including Permanent Secretary Lolade Aina, President of the Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans Lawrence Ajayi, and Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board Ronke Azeez, who all urged participants to stay dedicated to continuous learning throughout the initiative.
