In a move aimed at addressing the growing pressure on Nigeria’s agricultural sector, the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) is preparing to launch a Farm Inputs Support Program (FISP) for more than 128,000 farmers nationwide.
The initiative was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja involving farmer groups, security agencies, and agricultural partners ahead of its rollout across 25 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
According to NADF, the program is designed to reduce the impact of rising costs of fertilizer, seeds, and other essential farm inputs that have forced many smallholder farmers to cut down production.
The Executive Secretary of NADF, Mohammed Ibrahim, said the intervention will help farmers stay active during the farming season by improving access to critical inputs and easing financial pressure.

The program will cover approximately 128,930 farmers, with a focus on smallholder farmers most affected by rising production costs. A pilot phase previously targeted agro-processors before expanding to wider farmer participation.
Stakeholders, including the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, supported the initiative but emphasized the need for transparency and proper verification to prevent duplication and ensure fair distribution.
Farmers at the engagement expressed hope that the program could reduce the burden of high fertilizer prices, which have significantly affected profitability and farm output.
