The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its partnership with the European Union (EU) to enhance digital support and capacity development for its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. During a courtesy visit to the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, at the EU Mission in Abuja, NYSC Director-General Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu emphasized that workforce development is essential to fulfilling the Scheme's overall mandate. He noted that the NYSC remains open to strategic collaborations involving seminars, workshops, and training initiatives that enhance staff expertise, while also expressing appreciation for the EU’s ongoing commitment to empowering Nigerian youth.
Designed to tackle rising graduate unemployment, the SAED program equips corps members with practical entrepreneurial skills to foster self-reliance, business creation, and job growth. According to a statement by NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations Caroline Embu, the program has successfully enabled thousands of corps members to launch viable enterprises, employ others, and access development grants. In response, Ambassador Gautier Mignot commended NYSC leadership for institutionalizing SAED as a strategic driver of national development. He reaffirmed that the EU works alongside key implementing partners to deliver development projects across critical sectors in Nigeria, including digital technology, youth and women empowerment, renewable energy, agriculture, healthcare, and inclusive economic growth. Together, both institutions aim to broaden digital literacy and entrepreneurial opportunities for young professionals across the country.
