The second edition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola’s agricultural empowerment programme took place at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion in Ilaro, Ogun State, where the lawmaker representing Ogun West provided tools, machinery, and direct financial support to 2,557 local farmers. Designed to complement President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope food security agenda, the intervention addresses high operational costs and low productivity by supplying heavy machinery, inputs, and a direct cash grant of N100,000 to each recipient.
Among the distributed equipment were 10 tractors with full attachments, 17 power tillers, 250 haulage tricycles, 1,000 water pumps, 1,000 seed planters, and 1,500 knapsack sprayers. Beneficiaries also received organic fertilizers, improved seed varieties, farming hand tools, and 8,000 bags of NPK and urea fertilizers. To protect these investments and prevent the resale of critical equipment, a central management team was tasked with supervising the operation and ongoing maintenance of the tractors and power tillers.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Adeola highlighted key federal initiatives aimed at supporting year-round farming across three annual cropping seasons. He pointed to over N350 billion set aside for dam irrigation reticulation and desilting through national river basin authorities, including the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority. He also referenced the N100 billion National Agriculture Development Fund, the allocation of 2,000 tractors nationwide, and a N12 billion commitment toward ranch development across Ogun and six other states under the Ministry of Livestock.
