Applications are officially open for the 2026 African Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship Program. This initiative offers awards of USD $5,000 to support African professionals dedicated to advancing the understanding and efficient use of plant nutrients within African agro-ecosystems. The program aims to enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability across the continent through target education, training, and communication outreach.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Professional Status: Open to full-time scientists, extension specialists, or educators employed at:
- African NARES institutions (National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems)
- Universities
- Non-profit organizations
- Private sector organizations
Note: Current students are not eligible.
- Project Plan: Applicants must present an innovative proposal addressing key knowledge gaps or synthesizing existing research to accelerate the adoption of improved soil fertility practices in Africa.
- Priority Alignment: Strong preference is given to projects aligned with key APNI initiatives, including:
- 4R Nutrient Stewardship
- Nutrient & Water Management Innovations for Resilient Agriculture in African Drylands
- Soil Health Nutrient Management & Diagnostics
- Precision Farming
- Farmer-led On-farm Innovation
- Diversity & Collaboration: Demonstrating active partnerships and collaborative efforts is highly advantageous. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Guidelines & Requirements
Interested candidates must submit the following materials through the official portal in English or French:
- Project Proposal: Detailed plan outlining how the fellowship will improve soil management adoption and outreach.
- Letters of Support: Two signed reference letters, including one from the applicant's current supervisor.
- Updated CV / Resume: Detailing academic background, relevant publications, or communication work.
Fellowship recipients will be expected to submit a final summary report detailing fund usage and project outcomes.
