The UNESCO Intercultural Leadership Programme 2026 is now officially accepting applications. Designed as UNESCO’s flagship initiative for emerging global change-makers, this intensive leadership journey equips young leaders to foster social cohesion, manage complex community challenges, and drive inclusion through intercultural dialogue.
Target Theme:Human Connection and Dialogue in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
This year's cohort will critically analyze how Artificial Intelligence impacts cultural representation and communication, focusing directly on major digital hurdles:
- Algorithmic bias, stereotyping, and digital discrimination.
- Misinformation, online polarization, and hate speech.
- Inequalities in digital skills, infrastructure, and technology access.
- Preserving and representing diverse languages and knowledge systems within AI models.
Eligibility & Participant Requirements
Applicants must meet the following mandatory criteria to be considered for selection:
- Age Bracket: Between 25 and 45 years old (as of October 22, 2026).
- Leadership Record: A proven history of leadership and social impact within their respective fields.
- Commitment: Openness to collaborative learning, self-reflection, and cross-cultural engagement.
- Availability: Must be fully available to participate across all three phases of the programme.
The Three-Phase Leadership Journey
Phase 1: Strengthen Leadership Practice
An immersive preparatory training program consisting of structured, interactive online workshops. Participants will sharpen the core competencies required to lead diverse groups through fast-evolving social environments.
Phase 2: Lead an Intercultural Action Initiative
Using the $10,000 USD seed funding grant, participants will design and launch a practical grassroots project. The initiative must utilize intercultural dialogue methodologies, align with the 2026 AI theme, and be fully executed at a local or national level within six months.
Phase 3: Amplify Impact & Global Conversations
Graduates will showcase their initiative results to global policymakers and institutional figures at the UNESCO Global Youth Dialogue for Peace. Following graduation, participants gain lifetime entry into the Youth for Peace Global Alumni Network and contribute insights to the UNESCO Global Intercultural Action Observatory.
