Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has inaugurated the Omituntun 2.0 Enterprise Skill Development Programme, intending to train 500 unemployed graduates in leadership, financial sustainability, entrepreneurship, and business proposal writing skills.
Key Details:
Participants: The program targets 15 youths aged 22-35 from each of the 33 local government areas.
Training Components:
- Curriculum covers business proposal writing, successful interview techniques, entrepreneurship, financial and business management, as well as leadership skills and mentorship.
Monitoring: Beneficiaries will undergo six months of post-training monitoring.
Starter Packs: Upon completion, trainees will receive starter packs tailored to their business interests.
Implementation: The program will commence in the Oke-Ogun zone on June 10th, expanding to other zones thereafter.
Remarks:
Wasilat Adegoke, Commissioner for Youths and Sports, emphasized the importance of addressing unemployment and youth restiveness, warning against the sale of starter packs.
Jasper Ezenwaka, Consultant, highlighted the program’s potential to combat the ‘japa’ syndrome and instill an entrepreneurial mindset among youths.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Mrs. Olubukola Oladipo, encouraged applicants to be honest and make the most of the opportunity.
Director, Youth Development, Mrs. Kudirat Mustapha, emphasized the program’s unique and merit-based selection process, initially targeting unemployed graduates before extending to youth in business.
These initiatives demonstrate the Oyo State government’s dedication to promoting entrepreneurship, reducing unemployment, and supporting small businesses, particularly in light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
