The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) has opened applications for its 2026 Annual Essay Competition for students in Nigerian universities and polytechnics.
The competition is designed to encourage critical thinking and academic research while helping students explore conversations around employability, workplace readiness, and the future of work in Nigeria.
This year’s essay topic is: “Are Nigerian Tertiary Institutions Truly Preparing Students for the World of Work?”
According to CIPM, the competition offers students an opportunity to gain national recognition, connect with professionals in the human resource industry, and strengthen their writing and analytical skills.
Winners will share a total cash prize of ₦750,000, along with additional rewards, including HRM books, networking opportunities, and an all-expenses-paid trip to Abuja for the CIPM 2026 International Conference and Exhibition.
Prize Breakdown
- First Prize: ₦300,000 + 2 HRM Books
- Second Prize: ₦250,000 + 2 HRM Books
- Third Prize: ₦200,000 + 2 HRM Books
Selected participants will also receive free student membership registration with CIPM if they are not already members.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be undergraduate students in Nigerian universities or polytechnics
- Submit an original essay not exceeding 3,000 words
- Use APA referencing style
- Type essays in Times New Roman, font size 12
- Submit entries in MS Word format only
- Avoid plagiarism, as copied entries will be disqualified

- Admission letter
- One recent passport photograph
- Active phone number and email address
