The Ogun State Government has initiated the distribution of the second phase of the N1 billion Operational Grant for Micro and Small Scale Enterprises as part of its OG-cares program.
The aim of this operational grant disbursement is to provide support to businesses within the state, particularly amidst the challenging global economic conditions. Approximately 2,822 entrepreneurs are anticipated to benefit from this second phase.
During the first disbursement in 2023, around 1000 entrepreneurs in micro-enterprises received N100,000 each, while those in the small-scale category received N350,000 each.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, speaking at the grant disbursement event in Abeokuta, emphasized his administration’s commitment to supporting the growth and development of the state’s Medium, Small, and Micro Scale Enterprises, in line with the “Building Our Future Together” Agenda.
The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Mrs. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, highlighted the crucial role played by these enterprises in promoting entrepreneurship, fostering innovation, and driving inclusive economic growth.
Acknowledging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating the scheme, the governor assured that the disbursement would extend beyond its initial deadline in June 2024. He urged beneficiaries to use the grants wisely and responsibly to drive positive change and contribute to economic growth.
Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, emphasized the responsibility that comes with the grant, urging beneficiaries to utilize it for its intended purpose.
Dapo Okubadejo, Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the steering committee for OG-CARES, highlighted the aim of the disbursement to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and support small and medium-scale business owners in the state. He stressed the importance of judicious use of the money and its role in providing social protection for the poor and vulnerable, as well as supporting agricultural businesses.
Hon. Emilola Gazal, Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, expressed gratitude to the state government for its commitment to grassroots development and advised beneficiaries to make good use of the grant.
Chairman Association of all Business Owners of Nigeria, Femi Egbesola, and the Iyaloja General of Ogun State, Alhaja Yemisi Abass, commended the Governor for empowering small and medium-scale business owners, youths, farmers, and market men and women, which has turned many beneficiaries into employers of labor.
The beneficiaries were carefully selected through an inclusive process involving key stakeholders such as local government chairmen, market associations, Community Development Councils, and various other organizations.
